Basketball

Basketball is a team sport played on a rectangular court, primarily between two teams of five players each. The objective of the game is to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet off the ground. Points are awarded based on the distance from which the shot is made; a field goal from inside the three-point line is worth two points, while a shot made from beyond the three-point arc is worth three points.

Each game consists of four quarters, with teams trying to outscore one another. Players can dribble the ball by bouncing it while moving or pass it to teammates. The game emphasizes skills such as shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense. Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith and has since grown in popularity around the world, featuring professional leagues such as the NBA (National Basketball Association) in the United States. It is known for its fast pace, strategic play, and high-scoring nature, making it an engaging spectator sport.
